Day Trip Anchor 1
Drive from Anchorage to Sterling

While Kenai Municipal Airport is much closer to our property, if you have never been to Alaska, consider driving down from Anchorage. Non-stop it is about 2.5 hours.

It is truly one the most scenic roads in Alaska with water, mountains, glaciers and wildlife. Around every bend there is a breathtaking view.

There are several stops along the route from Anchorage that are worth seeing. If possible, plan to arrive into Anchorage early in the morning and take the whole day to drive down. (6- 8 hours with the stops on this itinerary).

  • Stop at Alyeska Ski Resort and take the gondola to the top for an awe-inspiring view of Turnagain Arm.

  • Finally, stretch your legs, grab a bite to eat or visit the gift shop at the Kenai Princess Lodge in Cooper's Landing. It sits high on a ridge, with a great view of the turquoise blue glacial waters of the Kenai River.

Seward Day Trip Options

There are many enjoyable activities to experience on the drive between our property and Resurrection Bay in Seward, AK. Combine a few and create a perfect day, customized to your likes. Below are few options to consider.

Whichever you choose, plan to start your day early and return late!

Russian River Falls Trail is an easy 1 hour hike to see salmon swimming upstream and bears trying to catch them!
  • The trail begins off the access road to the Russian River Campground, at milepost 52 of the Sterling Highway. Hike two miles to the falls and the overlook.

Cooper Landing - River rafting or drift boating is a great way to spend a few hours and see this amazing land from a different perspective.

Exit Glacier - short hike to glacier view or longer hike to face of glacier. At Seward Highway milepost 3.7, turn on Exit Glacier Road (signed). The Nature Center (open summer only) is about 8.5 miles ahead.

Seward Boat Harbor is a picturesque spot to stop for a fresh seafood lunch. Or just stroll along the dock and see the boats coming in with the catch of the day. A few souvenir shops and a yummy ice cream parlor are across the street.

  • Chinooks or Ray's Waterfront are two of our favorite restaurants.

  • Don't forget to line up a Kenai Fjords tour at their office located here! Or go to their website in advance to pre-arrange a tour.

4th Ave / Downtown Seward - Park on the street and wander around the shops & restaurants. Be sure to the try out the newly opened brewery. This is an area where women can browse the shops while men sample pints of beer (or vice versa).

  • Don't miss Brown and Hawkins, which has been in business in Alaska since 1900 and is on the National Register of Historic Places. See the old bank vault and view lots of historic photos.

  • Enjoy the only craft beer in town at the Seward Brewing Company, 1 block before the bay.

Alaska SeaLife Center - Alaska’s only public aquarium and ocean wildlife rescue center is celebrating ten years on the shores of Resurrection Bay.

Resurrection Bay is another fantastic area to explore. Whether by boat or kayak, on your own or with a guided tour, the folks at Miller's Landing can arrange an exciting outing for your group. With adventures on both land and sea.
